NYC Kids Can Climb this Giant Art Playground—For FREE

Looking for a fun, unique, and FREE spring break activity in NYC? CJ Hendry's newest pop-up art installation, entitled Keff Joons, is now open, taking over a massive Dumbo warehouse.
Known for immersive, large-scale installations that are colorful, fun, quirky, and a bit subversive, Hendry's newest installation is no different. In Keff Joons, Hendry has created a surreal playground of huge, long, rubber balloons that are twisted and intertwined with each other forming an immense, climbable structure that nearly fills the whole warehouse.
We visited, climbed, squished, and slid on Keff Joons, and have all our tips and tricks for your visit below.

What is Keff Joons?
Hendry's Keff Joons pays homage to artist Jeff Koon's iconic balloon sculptures, but unlike those sculptures, Hendry's towering rubber balloons are meant to be interacted with. Kids (and adults) can climb, jump, and navigate through a tangle of massive balloons that are red, blue, orange, yellow, white, and green.
According to my son, the rubber balloons looked a bit like huge, rubber worms. They're a bit squishy and slippery, making them perfect to slide on. He loved exploring the installation, discovering little pockets of space where he could hide, jumping from ledge to ledge, balancing and then rolling back down.
The exhibit also showcases Hendry's balloon drawings and a miniature version of the balloon installation.
