Birds of the World, the latest of the Houston Zoo’s ongoing round of new and improved exhibits and restoration projects, takes full flight for its opening this Friday, August 30, 2024.

What You'll See at Birds of the World
You’ll want to bring your whole flock to see an assortment of birds from around the globe housed in three separate, family-friendly aviaries based on region. In the African Savanna aviary, spot the regal grey crowned crane, an endangered species that stands more than 3 feet tall. The North American Woodlands aviary brings a musical medley to your ears, as it’s filled with chirpy American songbirds like the bright-blue indigo bunting. Finally, the South American Wetlands aviary lets visitors walk through for up-close encounters with a wide variety of feathered friends, including a personal favorite of mine, the Chilean pink flamingos!
How to Visit Birds of the World at the Houston Zoo
This Friday, August 30, marks the grand opening. You’ll find Birds of the World just past the new Galapagos Islands exhibit, across from the entrance to the Wortham World of Primates. A visit to the aviaries is included with your ticket. While you’re there, navigate your way through the rest of the zoo and discover our must-see habitats and favorite spots with these Tips and Secrets to the Houston Zoo with Kids.
The Houston Zoo is open daily from 9 a.m. – 5 p.m. (last entry at 4 p.m.). Nonmembers must reserve tickets online in advance.
