Design a Garden City with Amy Chiu at the Boston Public Market

Amy Chiu, a Harvard and UC Berkeley Learning Designer, will lead a hands-on workshop at the Boston Public Market, where children can design and build their own Garden City using cardboard and recycled materials.
Participants will explore urban design, sustainability, and the relationship between plants, people, and city spaces. From hydroponic structures to reimagined green spaces, children will prototype creative ways to make cities more sustainable and vibrant.
This workshop is designed for children ages 7-12 and encourages creativity, problem-solving, and community engagement. Parents and guardians must remain with their children for the duration of the event.
General admission includes one child ticket, while guardians do not require a ticket. This is a ticketed event to manage capacity, and proceeds support the Boston Public Market’s Community Engagement Fund. For financial assistance, contact agilbert@bostonpublicmarket.org.
About Amy Chiu:
Hey hey! I’m Amy & I’m on a mission to create the biggest cardboard creators community EVER so that every kid has a place to spark their creativity…starting with Boston! I’m so, so excited to build some awesome creations together at BPM :)
TLDR - I'm a Harvard Ed School x UC Berkeley alum who's run 100+ workshops both online & in person for 250+ kids across the past 4 years! I spent my time at the Harvard Graduate School of Education obsessing over kids’ creativity in the Learning Design, Innovation & Technology program where I co-conceptualized an interactive sensory-based game, helped redesign a toy table with an MIT startup, and developed paintable playspaces for preschoolers.
Before that, I studied linguistics, media, & education at UC Berkeley, then hopped over to BümoBrain, an online preschool where I managed operations for learning kits. I even did a stint at Suffolk (for any Boston-based construction nerds)!
I’m obsessed with designing one-of-a-kind learning experiences that are accessible to all, and can’t wait to see where our wildest, wackiest ideas take us at BPM!
