Free Things to Do in Miami & South Florida with Kids

1. Beaches—Throughout South Florida

The beach is always a great option for a day of free fun. Pack snacks, lunches, games, and towels for a great experience. Check out our list of great family friendly beaches for options.

2. Patricia & Phillip Frost Art Museum—Miami

Situated on the Florida International University (FIU) campus, this art museum provides free admission to world-class art that spans cultures and time periods.

3. Florida State Parks Operation Recreation GeoTour—Multiple Locations

Spanning from the panhandle to Key West, this statewide geocaching treasure hunt uses location coordinates to find caches throughout 71 state parks and trails. A Kids GeoTour is also available.

4. Jupiter Beach Park—Jupiter

This beach lies on the south side of the Jupiter Inlet, with 1,700 feet of beach, picnic areas, outdoor showers, and a sand volleyball court. Enjoy inlet fishing.

5. Fishing—Throughout South Florida

Grab your fishing pole and head to any local canal, lake, or fishing pier. Though many fishing piers require a nominal fee to enter and cast a line, options for free fishing days exist in Palm Beach County and Broward County. Note: A Florida fishing license is required.

6. Snorkeling—Throughout South Florida

Getting in the water with a snorkel and exploring the underwater world is always hours of fun.

7. Kids Bowl Free—Throughout South FloridaMultiple Locations

Register your kids to receive two free games of bowling each day all summer long at participating bowling centers.

8. Free Preschool Passes

At the beginning of each year, score FREE passes for Florida resident kids ages 5 and younger to Central Florida theme parks and attractions.

9. Library Programs

Many local libraries offer free programs for children, including art projects, exhibits, storytimes, homework help, and more. Check out the events at your local library in Broward County, Palm Beach County, and Miami-Dade County.

10. First Thursdays at NSU Museum of Art—Fort Lauderdale

Visitors enjoy free museum admission on every first Thursday of the month at the Sunny Days and Starry Nights program. The event also features all-day happy hour in the Museum Cafe.

11. First Saturdays at Gold Coast Railroad Museum—Miami

Go on a train ride or just check out the vintage rail cars, model train displays, and Thomas the Tank Engine play tables for little ones. Visit for free the first Saturday of each month.

12. Institute of Contemporary Art Museum—Miami

Admission to this museum is free, and kids will learn a lot about art and creativity. A free tour is offered at noon daily. Sundays are for families with the museum's one-hour workshops. 

13. Family Fun Days at Perez Art Museum Miami—Miami

Visit the Perez Art Museum Miami for free family fun days every second Saturday of the month. Family fun days include tours and chances for children to create their own art.

14. Free Family Day at Coral Gables Museum—Coral Gables

Walk through history for free at this museum on the historic site of the former police and fire station in Coral Gables.

15. Free Saturday at the Jewish Museum of Florida—Miami Beach

The Jewish Museum of Florida offers free admission on Saturdays. Housed in two historic art deco buildings, the museum preserves and interprets Florida's Jewish history from 1763 through today.

16. Farmers Markets—Throughout South Florida

Many local farmers markets have free kids activities for kids to enjoy while parents browse. Some great farmers markets include: Coconut Creek Hometown Market, Tamarac Community Farmers Market, Vizcaya Village Farmers Market, City of Parkland Farmers Market, and Green Market Pompano Beach.

17. Jupiter Family Movie Night—Jupiter

Bring your own chairs and blankets and come early to get a good seat at this free, outdoor, family-friendly movie night shown on a two-story inflatable screen.

18. Home Depot Kids Workshops—Multiple Locations

Sign your kids up for a monthly build workshop at participating Home Depot locations, where kids can build a project to take home with them.

19. Lowe’s DIY Kids’ Workshop—Multiple Locations

Each month, Lowe’s stores offer a free workshop for kids to build their own projects to bring home.

20. Screen on the Green—West Palm Beach

The West Palm Beach waterfront transforms into a theater under the stars for family-friendly movies featuring both classic films and newer flicks for you to enjoy.

21. Family Day at The Frank—Pembroke Pines

The Frank C. Ortis Art Gallery invites families to enjoy a free storytime and self-led art activity each month.

22. Saturday Night Public Astronomy at Fox Observatory—Sunrise

The Observatory is open to the public on Saturday evenings from sunset until midnight, hosted by the South Florida Amateur Astronomers Association.

23. Free Museum Days—Multiple Locations

South Florida has some wonderful museums and parks that offer monthly or even weekly free days or evenings, and we have curated a list for easy reference.

24. Preschool Storytime at The Four Arts—Palm Beach

Children 4 years of age and younger are welcome to enjoy a story time and connected craft with a different theme each week.

25. Family Storytime—Boca Raton

Little ones ages 5 and under can enjoy a class with fun stories, music and movement, songs, and rhymes.

26. Splash Pads—Multiple Locations

Visit a Miami splash pad to keep the kids cool and entertained. Several splash pads listed are FREE to visit!

27. Apple Store Workshops—Multiple Locations

South Florida Apple stores offer free workshops on topics such as coding an app, making emojis, photography, and more.

28. Tunes 'N Trucks Concert Series—Sunrise

Each Tunes 'N Trucks event features live music and food trucks. Bring your lawn chair or blanket. Admission is free.

29. Free Summer Concerts—Multiple Locations

These summer concerts, many of which are FREE, welcome families with children of all ages.

30. Rock the Park—Plantation

This free concert series takes place the first Friday or select Saturdays of the month at Pine Island Park.

31. Savor the Sounds—Pembroke Pines

Enjoy the fusion of music and food at Pembroke Pines' Savor the Sounds free concert series. Each month features a new music genre.

32. Music at the Hollywood Bandshell—Hollywood

This free live outdoor venue is both picturesque and casual with its oceanside location. Favorite local bands play nightly from Wednesday to Sunday.

33. First Friday @ 5 Concert—Boynton Beach

Boynton Beach offers a free concert series the first Friday of each month at Centennial Park & Amphitheater.

34. Manatee Lagoon—West Palm Beach

View manatees up close during Florida manatee season (November-March) and learn more about these gentle mammals.

35. Animal Feeding at Green Cay Nature Center—Boynton Beach

A Green Cay naturalist leads a free animal feeding presentation for all ages, no reservation required. Kids can watch the animal eat and learn about it at this weekly Feed and Talk.

36. Marine Environmental Education Center—Hollywood

Visitors are invited to view a daily sea turtle feeding with an educational presentation about resident green sea turtles Captain and Coral. The Marine Environmental Education Center focuses on protecting the oceans and sea turtles.

37. Great Backyard Bird Count

The Great Backyard Bird Count is an annual four-day event that engages bird watchers of all ages in counting birds to create a real-time snapshot of where the birds are.

38. Free Outdoor Summer Movies

Pack a picnic, bring your own chairs or blanket, and enjoy a movie under the stars with your family.

39. Supercar Saturdays Florida—Hollywood

This car show is the largest gathering of supercars, exotic cars, hyper cars, luxury cars, classic cars, race cars, and custom cars in South Florida

40. Bike Rodeos BikeSafe at The Underline—Miami

These free bike rodeos teach kids ages 5-12 bicycle handling and safety skills. Multiple events take place in the spring.

41. Sugar Sand Park—Boca Raton

Impress your kids with one of the nicest parks in Florida! Sugar Sand Park features a carousel, splash pad, and much more. Note: Certain attractions in the park do come with an admission fee.

42. Burt Aaronson South County Regional Park—Palm Beach County

This massive park includes sports courts, fishing, a playground, nature center, and lots of water activities.

43. Patch Reef Park—Boca Raton

Patch Reef Park features an array of awesome amenities, and coming in the summer of 2025 is a new inclusive playground and splash pad makeover with interactive elements.

44. Plantation Woods—Plantation

This woods-themed park is located within the historic district, and contains three shaded playground areas with tree houses, grizzly bears, and specialty tree swings.

45. Welleby Park—Sunrise

Kids will never get tired of this 29-acre park! Welleby Park features a splash pad, an amazing playground, lakeside boardwalk, pavilions, and more.

46. Tiger Shark Cove—Wellington

This ocean-themed playground features awesome attractions, including a tiger shark play structure, sand castles, sunken pirate ship, and much more.

47. Family Sundays at Dania Pointe—Dania Beach

There's something for every member of the family at Dania Pointe during Family Sundays, including live music, interactive performances, and life-size games.

48. Daytime Playtime—West Palm Beach

This weekly casual play date on the lawn features water tables, hula hoops, lawn games, and more.

49. Family Day at the Underline—Miami

Families can enjoy a morning of free exploration with themed activities. Note: Registration is required.

50. Celebrate the Arts—Weston

This annual event is a day filled with fun, creativity, and inspiration, including an iconic 28-foot-long graffiti wall.

51. Lake Worth Bonfires & Night Market—Lake Worth Beach

Visit Lake Worth Beach to enjoy bonfires and stroll the night market.

52. South Point Park—Miami Beach

Enjoy a stroll on the pier with panoramic ocean views, a playground and splash pad, and public art along a paved path. You can watch the boats sail by.

53. Amelia Earhart Park—Hialeah

This 515-acre park offers five lakes, water sports, a farm village with a petting zoo and pony rides, a skate park, mountain bike trails, and a Tom Sawyer play island with fort-style treehouses. Parking is free on weekdays (excluding holidays).

54. Greynolds Park—North Miami Beach

Once a rock quarry, this 249-acre historic park opened in 1936 as part of the county park system. Known for limestone structures built by the Civilian Conservation Corps, it features picnic areas, playgrounds, walking trails, bird watching, and scenic views of the Oleta River. There is no parking fee on weekdays, excluding holidays.

55. Viernes Culturales in Little Havana—Miami

Little Havana's vibrant art and culture festival is perfect for the whole family, featuring live music and creations by more than 30 local artists and artisans.

56. Markham Park—Sunrise

This massive park features mountain bike trails, RC airplane and crawler courses, dog park, jogging trails, fishing, boating, sports fields, nature trails, skeet, trap, sporting clays, and an archery range.

57. Free Entrance Days in the National Parks

On select days throughout the year, all national parks, including Everglades National Park, are open to the public with no admission fee. 

58. Salvadore Park—Coral Gables

Salvadore Park in Coral Gables is a kids paradise! This inclusive and sensory-friendly park offers activities for all ages, including music elements, zip lines, slides, swings, and more.

59. Robert is Here Fruit Stand—Homestead

This fruit stand and farm in Homestead has a free petting zoo where kids can handfeed the farm animals.

60. Enchanted Forest Park—North Miami

This scenic park features a butterfly garden, tot lot, nature center, petting zoo, and pony rides.

61. Florida Keys Wild Bird Center—Tavernier

Observe the rehabilitation efforts for injured, sick, rescued, or orphaned birds, and visit the resident nonreleasable wild birds. Admission is free, but donations are appreciated.

62. See the Tarpon at Robbie's—Islamorada

Known for the hundreds of tarpon that linger at the docks, Robbie's is a must-visit destination in the Florida Keys. You can even feed them for a small fee.

63. National Key Deer Refuge—Big Pine Key

The National Key Deer Refuge is home to more than 20 endangered and threatened plant and animal species, including the Key deer—the smallest subspecies of white-tailed deer. Found exclusively in the lower Florida Keys, these deer are unique to this region and exist nowhere else in the world.

64. Street Painting Festival—Lake Worth Beach

More than 600 artists turn the streets of downtown Lake Worth Beach into a breathtaking outdoor museum at this annual festival.

65. Schoolhouse Children's Museum Family Fun Day—Boynton Beach

Celebrate heroes, princesses, fairytale characters, and superheroes at this annual family fun day event.

66. Children's Science Explorium—Boca Raton

Located in Sugar Sands Park, this free science center offers a variety of interactive exhibits.

67. Movies in the Park—Plantation

Enjoy a movie outdoors with your family at Plantation's Movies in the Park series.

68. Anne Kolb Nature Center—Hollywood

This free nature center boasts an amphitheater, nature trails, an exhibit hall, fishing areas, observation tower, picnic spaces, and public art.

69. Deerfield Island Park—Deerfield Beach

Situated on the Intracoastal Waterway, this unique island park is accessible exclusively by a free boat shuttle. Note: As of January 2025, the island is temporarily closed for renovations.

70. LauderGO! Water Trolley—Fort Lauderdale

Enjoy a scenic water journey, and access destinations along the New River at no cost.

71. Central Broward Park & Broward County Stadium—Lauderhill

Home to the only certified U.S. cricket stadium, this park offers free entry on weekdays. It features soccer and football fields, netball courts, tennis courts, basketball courts, and a water playground.

72. IGNITE Broward—Fort Lauderdale, Dania Beach, and Hollywood

Visit 30 free pop-up art and light displays around Broward County during this 10-day festival.

73. Loggerhead Marinelife Center—Juno Beach

 Located in Loggerhead Park, this nonprofit center features a sea turtle hospital, educational exhibits, aquariums, and a gift store.

74. Palm Beach County History Museum—West Palm Beach

Housed in a historic courthouse, this museum offers free admission and features unique exhibits, including a giant mosquito, interactive displays, sports memorabilia, and galleries celebrating the people and environments of the Palm Beaches.

75. Sunday on the Waterfront—West Palm Beach

This free, family-friendly concert series is held monthly on the West Palm Beach waterfront, offering great music and scenic views of the Intracoastal Waterway.
