Interactive Barbie Exhibit Opens at Discovery Cube for Limited Time

The limited-time Barbie: You Can Be Anything experiential exhibit has arrived at Discovery Cube LA, encouraging kids to pursue their biggest career dreams–photo ops included.
Parents are constantly asking their kids what they want to be when they grow up, but the Barbie: You Can Be Anything exhibit offers you a one-of-a-kind chance to actually show them. Featuring a collection of career Barbie dolls plus hands-on interactive activities, the experiential exhibit is now open at Discovery Cube LA welcoming families to come explore through May 11, 2025.
As a big fan of the Cube myself–and a dedicated member–I jumped at the chance to take my 4-year-old to a much-anticipated preview of the exhibition, and it did not disappoint. Read on for answers to some of the most commonly asked questions about Barbie: You Can Be Anything, and helpful tips to know before you go.
The fun photo opportunities are endless at Barbie: You Can Be Anything.
What to Expect at the Barbie: You Can Be Anything Exhibit
The Barbie: You Can Be Anything exhibit features an incredible display of career Barbie dolls from the last six decades with an emphasis on influential women who have broken boundaries. Paired with touchscreen activities, role-play environments, and fun photo opportunities, families are invited to explore over 15 different career roles.
Instead of simply showcasing the different careers, the exhibit is divided into five categories that highlight specific skills and role types. This helps kids see how their own strengths and abilities could someday lend themselves to real-life jobs.
Are you a leader? Step up to the podium to present a presidential speech (cue cards included) or direct a film on a Barbie “soundstage” (where my daughter played for an hour!). Are you an adventurer? Scale a mini mountain in the rock climbing area. Problem solver? Try your hand at archeology and re-assemble a broken vase.
Explore over 15 different career roles at the exhibit, from surfer to archeologist.
Are Photos Allowed at the Barbie: You Can Be Anything Exhibit?
In fact, you’re encouraged to! The exhibit is full of fun photo ops.
As you explore, snap a shot of your aspiring surfer catching a gnarly wave or your wildlife-photographer-to-be behind the wheel of a safari vehicle. At the end of the visit, kids can also take home a digital souvenir by visiting the photo booth. By simply entering their name and dream career, they can snap a personalized photo in front of a digitally generated backdrop. I thought this was the sweetest touch and made for a really special memento.
The exhibit welcomes visitors of all ages—including grownups!
Is the Barbie Exhibit Worth a Visit?
Yes! Especially if you’ve got kiddos ages 4 to 8–although the experience is welcoming to all ages. Not only do the decades of Barbies offer an interesting history lesson–the exhibit features several role model displays that highlight influential women who have made an enormous impact on their respective fields.
I loved the quote from Barbie creator Ruth Handler displayed at the exhibit: “My whole philosophy with Barbie was that, through the doll, you could be anything you wanted to be. Barbie always represented the fact that a woman has choices.” This really embodies the core of the exhibition–inspiring girls and women of every generation to pursue their dreams.
