Calm Morning: The Iron Giant
The Academy Museum offers designated hours so that kids can experience the museum in a less sensory-stimulating way.
In January, activities include a character design and storyboard workshop inspired by the accommodative screening of The Iron Giant.
SCHEDULE:
9am - 10am: Early Gallery Access
Guests can explore the Inventing Worlds and Characters: Animation and Effects galleries in the Stories of Cinema Stories of Cinema exhibition on Level 3, with sound and lighting adjustments made for a more sensory-friendly viewing experience.
10am - 11am: Family Workshop
Visit the Shirley Temple Education Studio on the museum’s Lower Level for a character design and storyboarding family workshop. Families can design their own robots and stories inspired by The Iron Giant.
In addition to the Calm Mornings program, visitors are encouraged to attend the accommodative, open-caption screening of The Iron Giant at 11am, which moves to the David Geffen Theater this month. (Separate admission ticket required. Tickets for the screening are free this month.)
The Shirley Temple Education Studio remains open during the screening as a space for relaxation and continued art making until 1pm.
