Los Angeles Marathon
Everybody’s running this way and that (mostly that). You can run along and cheer them on—or find alternate routes to get where you're going and not get stuck in traffic!
Some readers may be more interested in figuring out which areas to avoid, while others may want to claim a spot to watch the action. Whether the thought fills you with thrills or dread, the LA Marathon sets off from Dodger Stadium early Sunday morning and follows a route to the Finish Line at Santa Monica Blvd and Avenue of the Stars, passing through a whole slew of normally busy surface streets. If traffic delays are your main concern, you'll want to check out the info about street closures associated with the race.
Traffic issues aside, watching 25,000 runners jog by - and perhaps offering them water or fruit - can be entertaining for kids. Certain spots are planned to be more entertaining than others: when available, info on performers along the route will be listed on the course entertainment page.
For those who take the long route to the finish line, Westfield Century City offers free engraving for LA Marathon medals, along with discounts at many of its retailers and restaurants.
