These don’t have to be done on any specific day! But in case you want to, here’s something to do every day in March.
Holidays and Activities for Each Day in March
March 1 – National Pig Day
This little piggie went to market, this little piggie stayed home! Celebrate National Pig Day with piggie cupcakes that take zero decorating skills, reading Olivia, or watching Peppa!
March 2 – Read Across America
Read Across America is celebrated on Dr. Seuss' birthday. We've got 21 ways to celebrate Seuss (from healthy Cat in the Hat snacks to Pin the Heart on the Grinch and 19 more ideas!), plus a whole Guide to the Best Books for Kids of All Ages to help you find your perfect next read.
March 3 – World Wildlife Day
World Wildlife Day was created to celebrate and raise awareness of the world’s wild fauna and flora. There are so many ways to celebrate with kids: visit your local zoo or park to check out animals and plants from your local area and around the world, or spend some time drawing pictures of the animals you'd like to meet and plants & trees you love the most.

March 4 – Mardi Gras
"Laissez les bons temps rouler!" is French for “Let the good times roll!” So have fun today; celebrate with the colors of Mardi Gras (yellow, green, and purple), a parade in your home, New Orleans food, or really anything your family would consider good times!
King Cake is our family's favorite way to start the day, and whoever gets the baby is the lucky king or queen of the year. Here's an easy recipe for making King Cake with kids.

March 5 – Discover What Your Name Means Day
Today is a great day to talk all about names. Where did your name come from? Why was it picked? And of course, what does it mean? The Bump has my favorite "name meaning" tool, and not just because it says my name means "pearl" and implies that the child is rare and precious!
Check out the meanings of 100 Top Unique Baby Names For Generation Alpha Babies.
March 6 – National Oreo Day
It's also No Homework Day, but I don't recommend celebrating this holiday if your teacher doesn't! Instead, take the kids to the store and let everyone pick out an Oreo flavor, then have a taste-testing party for dessert and decide who picked the best flavor. Recent new flavors include Toffee Crunch with Sugar Crystals, Java Chip, Post Malone Twists, and Golden Lemon.
March 7 – National Cereal Day
Have cereal for breakfast tonight (bonus, no cooking, no dishes!). Let everyone pick a cereal and then go crazy mixing up the flavors into tasty custom blends.
Fun fact: The first ready-to-eat cereal was Grape-Nuts, invented in 1897 by Charles W. Post. (Find more fun facts for kids here.)
March 8 – International Women's Day
Here are three great ways to celebrate women today:
- Try shopping today at a women's owned business in your community.
- Make a donation to a charity that supports women (even $1 is much appreciated).
- Talk to your kids about the women who inspire you all, from famous women to the women in your life.
March 9 – Daylight Savings Starts
Turn the clocks ahead today and lose an hour of sleep! But... it's worth it because the sun will shine longer. It means summer is coming!
March 10 – The Festival of Life in the Cracks Day
I love this day! It's time to look at all the small miracles in the world. Take your family on a walk and look closely at what is growing in the cracks; find and celebrate the plants and bugs that manage to thrive in the small cracks and spaces we often overlook.
March 11 – National Dream Day
Do you remember your dreams? Some people often do, and some rarely recall them. Spend the day talking about dreams; your sleeping dreams and your dreams for the future.
March 12 – National Girl Scout Day
Support the Girl Scout in your life by buying a box of cookies. Everyone wins!

March 13 – Holi & Purim begin
Two major holidays begin today! Check your local calendar of events for local celebrations honoring the Jewish holiday of Purim or the Hindu Festival of Colors called Holi.
March 14 – Pi Day
We came up with 25 fun ways to celebrate Pi Day, from circles to deals of sweet pies and pizza pies!
March 15 – Ides of March
Beware the Ides of March! But really only if you're Julius Caesar. You know how we celebrate at our house? Toga party! No joke. It's a fun way to celebrate Rome. We all dress in togas and eat pizza (I know that's Naples, not Rome, but kids love it and it's close enough!)
If your kids are older, it's a wonderful day to read a little Shakespeare (or watch a movie based on his works).

March 16 – National Panda Day
Did you know the pandas are back at the National Zoo? If you can't get to one of the few zoos left in the US where you can see pandas, you can always see a real panda in Trail of the Panda, a cartoon panda in Fung Fu Panda, and then eat panda snacks.
March 17 – St. Patrick's Day
You can check your calendar of events for fun events in your town, and you can also play some leprechaun tricks on your kids! We rounded up lots of Leprechaun Trap Ideas and Fun Tricks for Kids on St. Patrick's Day.
March 18 – Forgive Mom & Dad Day
This is another day designation that's new to me, but I'm into it! Sit down with your kids and ask them if there's anything they're upset at either of their parents for, anything they want to talk about and learn to forgive you for. It might be something as silly as they're mad you made them do homework or wouldn't buy them a new PS5, but there might be something real that opens up an honest and unusual conversation.
March 19 – Let's Laugh Day
Everyone needs a good laugh! We've collected thousands of jokes and silly things in our Funny Pages Guide to Jokes and Humor for Kids. It includes jokes for all occasions, tongue twisters, riddles, and more things that get you giggling. Have a competition to see who can keep from laughing the longest...
March 20 – Spring Equinox
Spring has sprung! Did you know what the Spring Equinox actually means? This is the time of the year when the Earth's axis and its orbit line up so that both hemispheres get an equal amount of sunlight. Now you know!

March 21 – World Puppetry Day
Shadow puppets, hand puppets, finger puppets, marionettes, sock puppets; I love puppets of all kinds. Try making these easy bunny glove puppets (they'll come in handy for Easter soon!) or even easier clothespin puppets. Then watch one of the Muppet movies, because the muppets are simply the best puppets of all time!
March 22 – Walk in the Sand Day
Whether it's the beach, a lake, or even a playground, get out there and get your feet in the sand. Sure, it's still a little chilly, but that's part of the fun.
March 23 – National Puppy Day
Who doesn't love a puppy? If you don't have a dog of your own, today is a great day to meet one at your local shelter (where you can inquire about volunteering) or visit a dog cafe near you!
March 24 – National Cheesesteak Day
Since the Eagles won the Super Bowl last month, it seems like a fitting time to honor the City of Brotherly Love's favorite food. Make some cheesesteaks for dinner! Remember, you can put what you like on it, but it's all about the roll.
March 25 – Play jump rope games
If March goes in like a lion, but out like a lamb, we should be getting closer to some nicer weather, where you can play outside. Make today a day to try some jump rope games outside!
March 26 – Purple Day
Here are 5 fun and easy ways to celebrate Purple Day:
- Purple Day is about epilepsy awareness, so donate to an epilepsy organization and talk with your kids about the condition.
- Wear all purple today (or at least have everyone in the family wear something purple!).
- Read Harold and the Purple Crayon.
- Make purple foods for dinner. Purple cabbage, purple grapes, purple potatoes, purple cauliflower, purple (forbidden) rice, plums, blackberries... what fun recipes can you make that incorporate these ingredients? Wash it all down with grape juice!
- Decorate your house with purple flowers and purple homemade crafts.

March 29 – Mermaid Day
On Mermaid Day, you can dress like a mermaid (we're partial to these mermaid blankets that don't require getting changed into a costume and are great for snuggling any time of the year), visit a beach and look for mermaids, do mermaid crafts (like this awesome mermaid you can make from a paper plate!), serve mermaid snacks (like Goldfish crackers and Clam Shell Cookies), and then watch The Little Mermaid.
March 30 – Eid al-Fitr
When the month of Ramadan is over, the festival/holiday of breaking the fast is Eid al-Fitr. It is the Islamic holiday celebrated where friends and family come together to perform a special prayer and give thanks for a successful month of fasting. This festival is celebrated for three days of food, decorations, gift giving, charity, and visiting friends and family. Learn all about celebrating Ramadan and Eid al-Fitr.
