I have the pleasure of introducing another new reader-turned-contributor to Mommy Poppins today. Karina Glaser hails from the North, no not Sarah Palin's North, Manhattan's. She has promised to keep us informed on the best stuff for kids and families going on in Washington Heights and Inwood. Check out her Washington Heights and Inwood post in our Neighborhood Guide. And here's a great event for this weekend I've heard many people rave about:

If your daughter insists on wearing her princess dress every day or your son just won’t let go of his magician’s wand, then you must check out Fort Tryon Park’s Medieval Festival this Sunday, September 28th from 11:30am – 6:00pm. Jesters, jugglers, and even knights on horseback will be among the revelers at this annual event in Washington Heights and Inwood. Dress up your whole family and head uptown for a day of dancing, food, and demonstrations straight out of the Middle Ages.

Don’t have anything medieval-ish to wear? Take an old sheet, cut a hole for your head in the middle, cinch a belt around your waist, and you’re ready to go as a pauper. You don’t have to dress up in medieval regalia, but what other day of the year will you be an outsider if you don’t?

Take the A train to 190th Street and use the subway elevators to get to Fort Tryon Park. (map)
