BCM is celebrating Asian American & Pacific Islander Heritage Month with special programs shining a spotlight on Asian American & Pacific Islander culture, including storytimes, dance workshops, a dumpling making workshop, and a live reenactment of Mulan.  

Thursday, May 1: Storytime with Michele Wong McSween
Meet author Michele Wong McSween for an interactive bilingual reading of Gordon & Li Li: All About Me, a charming book where children discover their heads, shoulders, knees, toes, and more.

Thursday, May 8: Storytime with Ran Wei
Author Ran Wei Baker of Boba Bear Bilingual Books hosts a special bilingual English-Chinese storytime! Enjoy a reading of 123 NYC with Boba Bear (123 八包熊去纽约玩), sing along to bilingual songs, and create a fun craft inspired by Boba Bear’s own NYC adventure.

Thursday, May 15: Storytelling and Dance Workshop with Ajna Dance Company
Learn expressive hand gestures with Ajna Dance Company as you explore classical Indian dance.

Thursday, May 22: Dumpling Making with Christine Wong
Author and plant-based chef Christine Wong presents an East Asian-style dumpling making workshop. Participants are invited to learn how to roll the dumpling wrappers and fold them in different ways using dough. Get a taste of chef Wong’s delicious handmade veggie dumplings right after!

Thursday, May 29: Mulan by New York Chinese Cultural Center
Watch and join performers from the New York Chinese Cultural Center as they bring the story of Mulan to life. See exciting dance and kung fu demonstrations, then get involved yourself after the show at a hands-on lesson where you’ll learn movements from the performance.
