Week in Review: Taste of Tribeca, Family Camping, Kid-Friendly Brooklyn, Strawberry Picking and More
Photo of the week: Brendan Fraser came to the hospital to premier his new movie, Furry Vengeance with the kids at the Cornell pediatrics unit. He actually sat through the whole thing with them, which was really quite an act of charity considering how sick he must be of seeing his butt getting kicked by animals over and over...and over...again. Good man!
Here's what you might have missed on the blog this week:
OUR LATEST VIDEOS
This week we gave you the scoop on how to get in on free family camping in NYC parks this summer and free admission to NYC's top museums. We tapped family-friendly Brooklyn, sharing some of Brooklyn's best baby boutiques in Williamsburg and Brooklyn's best hair salons just for kids. And if you don't know about the Story Pirates yet, don't miss out on this hilarious theater group that uses kids' own stories to create their comedic acts.
Since the weather is warming up, lots of people are looking to hop in the car to get out of the city on the weekends. Nothing beats heading out for fresh strawberry picking in Long Island. And you won't believe some of the cool miniature golf courses in NJ we found. For a longer getaway, we reviewed the awesome Great Wolf Lodge Indoor Water Park in the Poconos. Read about it and then check out the promo code to get 20% off, just for Mommy Poppins readers.
On a personal note, this week I got to bring my 6 year old son home from the hospital after a very long and terrifying month fighting off serious infection from a ruptured appendix. I am incredibly grateful to the amazing community that lives around this site, our public schools and our friends and family. Thank you to everyone who lent a supportive, hand, warm thought or kind word. It made all the difference. I wrote a little goodbye Goodnight Moon parody poem/thank you note to all the nurses who had helped us at the hospital and posted it on the Mommy Poppins Facebook page. Check it out there for a little chuckle.
This weekend we'll be volunteering at the Taste of Tribeca festival to help raise money for Lower Manhattan public schools. The kids area is going to be bigger than ever this year with lots of activities and family fun. If you want to go, go early because it will be crowded later on and tickets do sell out.
