Celebrate our amazing planet during the public school spring break with Earth Rocks! — a week-long festival of hands-on exploration and discovery at the Brooklyn Children's Museum.  

Throughout the week, activities are organized around three Earth-themed adventures: Soil, Plants, and Food, ♻️ Reduce, Reuse, and Recycle, and Animals and Insects

Discover the fascinating world of plants, transform trash into treasure through hands-on recycling and upcycling activities, get up close with fascinating creatures during our live animal programming to learn all about the many wonders of our planet!

CARE: ANIMALS AND INSECTS

  • Animal Encounters: Get a personal introduction to some of BCM's most fascinating creatures (April 14 & 16 @ 12pm & 3:30pm)
  • Animal Veterinary: Learn how to use a doctor's tools to perform a check-up on a fuzzy animal friend (every day from 10:30am – 12:30pm & 2:30pm – 4:30pm)
  • Animal Yoga: Embark on a wild and wonderful yoga journey led by Danielle Medina (April 13 & 14 @ 11am & 2pm)
  • Bug Out!: Bug out with Dr. Aaron Rodriques and his live collection of insects and invertebrates (April 13 @ 11am & 2pm)

SUSTAIN: REDUCE, REUSE, AND RECYCLE

  • Billion Oyster Project: Learn about the important roles oysters play in supporting aquatic life (April 14 & 15 @ 11am & 2pm)
  • Climate Rock Puppet Party!: Join climate-rocker and puppeteer Esther Crow as she teaches climate and sustainability lessons to kids through song, dance, and chants (April 16 @ 2pm)
  • Friends of Brower Park: Learn more about the science behind structures of plants by using carnation flowers and colorful dyes with Friends of Brower Park (April 15 @ 12pm & 2:30pm)
  • The Nature of Music: Create your own percussion instrument with recycled materials and engage in rhythmic play that supports listening through “call and response” and “jamming” (April 14 & 15 @ 11am & 2:30pm)
  • Pollinator Puppets: Learn about pollinators like bees and butterflies and how important they are to maintaining healthy ecosystems around the world (April 16 @ 10:30am)
  • Save The Earth: Join Cues for a demonstration & take-home scavenger hunt of "how to save your garbage from the garbage"- a hands-on lesson of the "4 Rs" (April 15 & 16 @ 11:30am & 2:30pm)

DAILY DROP-IN PROGRAMS

Everyday from 10:30am – 12:30pm & 2:30pm – 4:30pm: 

  • Earth Homes: Use natural materials like clay, sticks, and rocks to create your own small home structure inspired by the work of artist Beverly Buchanan in the ColorLab art studio
  • What's the Juice?: Build your own food-powered battery and discover the science of electricity in the Nature's Engineers STEM Makerspace
