BAX- Brooklyn Arts Exchange

Taught by professional artist faculty, BAX’s Education Department provides expert and nurturing instruction in dance, theater, and tumbling with an emphasis on cultivating creative expression.The programs encompass five core values:

BAX includes a broad range of youth classes, performances and festivals.

BAX offers scholarship assistance (including sliding scale tiered tuition) for all of our education programs, and over 40% of the student population receives some level of financial assistance.

Youth Classes

As an intergenerational incubator space, BAX welcomes all kinds of learners and centers peer-mentorship and creative expression within a culturally inclusive environment where young artists-in-progress can thrive. Taught by a diverse cohort of professional artists and educators, BAX Youth Education classes build technical skills in Dance, Creative Movement, Drama, and Tumbling while emphasizing improvisation, collaboration, performance, reflection, and community.

School Breaks

BAX School Breaks Programs provide a nurturing and creative space for all kinds of learners and artists-in-progress to thrive. Taking place in its spacious studios and with outdoor play at Washington Park field (historical Old Stone House), participants explore different daily and weekly performing and visual arts activities that are facilitated by warm staff and professional artists. BAX programming emphasizes peer-mentorship, creative choice-making, and collaboration in a non-competitive and culturally inclusive social environment. Join this spring and summer for lots of fun with new and familiar friends.

Festivals

Its youth education festivals and events provide an opportunity for young people from a vast array of cultures and backgrounds to find a common bond through the performing arts. The YouthWorks Festival and Teen Artist Exchange are structured to treat young artists with the respect given to professionals. They participate in the same process as the professional projects produced by BAX. All programs provide young people with options and choices in further education and careers. They are mentored by and learn from professional choreographers, playwrights, dancers, lighting designers and production staff.
